Peers, Leaders, and the Diffusion of Agroecological Knowledge in Farmer Networks
Résumé
The diffusion of knowledge through peer networks can play a crucial role in promoting the adoption of agroecological practices. How does the status of the first individuals in a peer network to receive information about new knowledge affect its eventual diffusion? To answer this question, we developed an experimental protocol to be implemented in the field with a sample voluntary farmers. In this RCT, farmers organized in small groups of around ten people receive content continuously for 18 months via a digital platform supposed to improve their knowledge of agroecology. Our setting should highlight peer effects — if they exist — when new knowledge is transmitted by a leader rather than a member randomly designated as an injection point in the network.
